Fayetteville - When Arkansas skipper Dave Van Horn got a call last year from Ray Birmingham of New Mexico about him bringing in his Lobos to play the Hogs in Baum Stadium in a mid week 2 game series he said sure. What he didn't know at the time was the Lobos schedule leading up to the Tuesday and Wednesday night games.
New Mexico played a Mountain West series against BYU on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday leading up to the Tuesday game with the Hogs. BYU doesn't play on Sunday and the Lobos had an extra day of rest. The Lobos were going to be able to throw two of their better pitchers in the matchup.
Friday the Lobos will host Coppin State who is not in the Mountain West.
Kenny Toves is the Lobos ace and he started Wednesday night after their number two pitcher Richard Olson started Tuesday night.
The Razorbacks couldn't afford to use too many arms during the series because of an important SEC weekend series with the Georgia Bulldogs starting Friday.
New Mexico took two of three from then number one Texas in Austin to start the season with a 2-1 record. When it comes to the mid week games and teams are playing teams in the SEC, they schedule so they can throw their best pitchers.
Arkansas won Tuesday night comming from behind in 11 innings 4-3 on a walk off single by Tom Hauskey. Wednesday night the Razorbacks won 5-4.
The Razorbacks lead the SEC West over LSU. The Georgia game Friday will start at 6:05 and be broadcasted on ESPN2 and 103.7 The Buzz.
