OUT AND ABOUT

4/30/2013 2:09 PM

We learned yesterday that NBA free agent Jason Collins has opened up about his sexual lifestyle declaring he is a homosexual thus becoming the first active player in a major U.S. sport to do so. There was plenty of talk about this in the other forms of media yesterday, including ESPN's Chris Broussard who said he thinks Jason Collins is a sinner, which ESPN has since come to call "regrettable". Charles Barkley also gives his opinion saying that he has played with gay players and everyone probably has a member of their family who may be but at the same time also defends Broussard's right to his opinion. Our phone lines were full of listeners who wanted to give their opinions on this issue which we also hear in this segment.

This did turn out to be the big topic today, but as a caller pointed out, there is actually NBA playoffs currently going on and being the sports station we are we also discuss the games. We can always count on someone to call in and put us back in line.

On to talk with us about the Access Cup was Becca Green and Chris Johnson. The ACCESS golf tournament is Monday, June 10 at Little Rock's Chenal Valley Country Club. The tournament benefits ACCESS which is located in Little Rock and offers full-time education, therapy, training, and activites for children and youths with learning dissabilities. To find out more about the event, sign up, or just more about ACCESS you can visit their website HERE

Jim Harris from Sporting Life Arkansas called in on the Revolution Hotline. We talk with Jim about several topics including golf, football, and how some of our former Hogs did in the NFL draft.

In our ZONE Segment of the Day, we talk about the suprising budding "Bromance" in the SEC. It involves Johnny Manziel and AJ McCarron who are planning a tropical getaway together.

Our buddy, Chris Kramolis from Tropical Smoothie called in from the ATL to bring us pleasure with his "Average Guy Movie Review". This week he gives some big ripe bananas to the movie MUD which was filmed here in our beautiful state of Arkansas and stars Matthew "all right, all right" McConaughey and Reese Skankerspoon (Chris explains this name in his review).

Coming up Wednesday, we will be joined by our favorite Canadian, Christina Lecuyer. We will recap the NBA playoff games, talk to Dick Jerardi from the Philidelphia News, Jeff McClure will be on to tell us about some Riverfest deals and the Hat Club Benefit. Also, Barrett Sallee from Bleacher Report. We thank you for listening to The Zone weekdays from 10 to 1!
