The Zone

7/8/2013 2:31 PM

Today in The Zone we talked to former child star of “Silver Spoons” Ricky Schroder. We played some clips from Ricky’s first movie “The Champ” from 1979 that Justin watched with his father as a child and was the first time he says he saw him cry. As an adult Ricky starred in the Lonesome Dove movies and also had successful runs on the TV shows NYPD Blue and 24. He was on with us to talk about a new movie that is available on demand called “Our Wild Hearts” that co-stars his daughter, Cambrie.

The Aaron Hernandez arrest has been dominating the news and the time to re-examine the way America views NFL players has come. They are looked at as role models by millions of kids but there is a dark side that is rarely addressed by the public or the NFL. On to talk with us about the criminality that runs rampant in the league was Jeff Benedict. He is the author of PROS AND CONS: The Criminals Who Play in the NFL. The The book details the NFL's most notorious offenders and what they've been charged with. This asl brought up an intresting point by Justin. He jokingly points out that many of these players feel they need to carry a gun for protection abut can't use simple protection when it comes to contraception.

In our Zone Segment of the Day, we discuss a disturbing story about a Soccer Referee who was stoned to death by spectators and beheaded and his head stuck on a stake kin the middle of the field as retaliation for stabbing a player to death in an argument. This sounds like something out of Game of Thrones but it's not. It's out of Brazil

Coming up Tuesday we will be joined by Jim Harris in studio and we will start our look back at the year that has been so far. Also, from Tropical Smoothie cafe Chris Kramolis will review "Before Midnight" and Bryace Nall will be on from Golden Eagle. Thanks for listening to The Zone from 10 to 1 with Justin Acri!
