FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Fans are invited to join Razorback student-athletes in supporting local food banks through the fifth annual Southeastern Conference’s Together We CAN drive beginning this Saturday at the Arkansas-Troy football game.
Canned food will be collected by members of the Razorbacks’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at various locations around Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday including at bins located in parking lots 56, 72 and the Gardens. Non-perishable food items will also be accepted at Gate 16 of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
The 17-day SEC Together We CAN food drive is being held on the campus of each SEC member institution and will run from Sept. 16 – Oct. 2, 2011. All items collected will go to support local food banks.
“I am confident that the Razorback Nation will join with us again to help feed those in need as part of SEC Together We CAN,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. “Last year with the help of Global Campus and Tyson Foods, Inc., we collected more than 81,000 pounds of canned food to be distributed in our area by the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. I encourage all Razorback fans to join our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Razorback student-athletes in making a difference in the lives of people in our community.”
The collection at the football game is just one opportunity fans have to participate in the food drive. Throughout the food drive, collecting bins will be located in the lobby of the Lewis Center, Barnhill Arena and the Broyles Athletic Center. Fans may drop their canned goods in the bins during normal business hours.
On Sept. 23, canned food will be collected at Razorback Field as Arkansas hosts Ole Miss in soccer. The same night, donations will also be accepted at Barnhill Arena when the Razorbacks host the Mississippi State Bulldogs in volleyball.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Razorback student-athletes will be collecting canned food items from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at four Harps Grocery Store locations (Wedington Drive, Garland Ave., College Ave. and Crossover and Mission Road) in Fayetteville.
The SEC Together We CAN drive is being held in conjunction with the University of Arkansas’ World Food Day efforts which runs from Sept. 16 – Oct. 16. All donated food will be matched on a 10-to-1 basis up to 60,000 pounds by Tyson Foods, Inc., and donated to the Full Circle Campus Food Pantry and the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank.
