FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas linebacker Jerry Franklin and kicker Zach Hocker were recognized as SEC players of the week, it was announced Monday.
Franklin was named SEC co-Defensive Player of the Week, and Hocker earned the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week nod following Arkansas’ 31-28 win at Vanderbilt.
Franklin led the Razorbacks with 10 tackles, including seven solo, and a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss. The senior from Marion, Ark., also turned in the biggest defensive play of the game with a 94-yard fumble return for a touchdown that, combined with a successful two-point conversion, tied the game at 28-28 with 13:25 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Hocker was perfect on three field goal attempts and averaged 69.4 yards on seven kickoffs with two touchbacks. The sophomore from Russellville, Ark., was good from 36 yards on Arkansas’ first drive of the second half and then connected on a season-long 50 yarder later in the third quarter. With the game tied 28-28, Hocker nailed a 42-yard field goal to put the Razorbacks up for good 31-28 with 6:53 left in the fourth quarter.
With this week’s two selections, UA has had eight SEC player of the week recognitions this season. Franklin earned the second SEC weekly honor of his career, while Hocker was recognized for the first time.
