11/14/2011 9:31 AM

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas wide receiver/punt returner Joe Adams has been named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Adams turned in a highlight-reel punt return that officially covered 60 yards for a touchdown and also caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown in Arkansas’ 49-7 victory over Tennessee last week in Fayetteville. The punt return touchdown was his third of the season, which leads the NCAA and is tied for the second-highest single-season total in SEC history, and fourth of his career, tied for fourth on the SEC’s all-time list.

The senior from Little Rock, Ark., also moved into a tie for second on UA’s all-time career receptions list against the Volunteers. Adams now has 153 career catches, two behind current record holder and fellow senior Jarius Wright’s 155. Adams also ranks fourth in school history with 2,326 receiving yards and with seven career 100-yard receiving games and is tied for fifth all-time at Arkansas with 16 receiving touchdowns.

With this selection, Adams becomes the second Razorback to win SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors three times in a career, tying teammate Dennis Johnson, who won the third of his career last week, for the most in school history. Adams has been recognized as the conference’s player of the week four times in his career, which is tied for the third-most by a Razorback. Adams also was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 5 following the Missouri State contest in which he tied an SEC single-game record with two punt return touchdowns.

Arkansas has had 11 SEC player of the week selections in 2011, tied for the highest single-season total in school history. This is the fourth consecutive week a Razorback has won a weekly conference honor and third straight week the Special Teams Player of the Week is from Arkansas. The only week since September Arkansas has not had at least one SEC player of the week was Oct. 15 when the Razorbacks were on a bye.

No. 6 Arkansas concludes its 2011 home slate Saturday when it hosts Mississippi State inside War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The game will be aired on CBS at 2:30 p.m.
