FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas is proud to announce former Arkansas running back Madre Hill as the A Club honorary captains for the Arkansas-Mississippi State football game on Nov. 19.
Hill is considered one of the best running backs to ever play at the University of Arkansas. Hill was a dominant player in the high school ranks, rushing for 2,863 yards his senior season while also leading his team to the 3A state championship. After Hill’s senior year, he was named the Reebok National High School Player of the Year, and was an All-American according to USA Today.
While playing for the Razorbacks, Hill made an immediate impact putting up solid numbers in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. In Hill’s freshman season in 1994, he rushed for 351 yards and broke a school record with a 100-yard kickoff return against LSU. In the 1995 season, Hill put up huge numbers, rushing for 1,387 yards, the third-highest single-season total in school history, and 15 touchdowns. In that season Hill broke the record for touchdowns in a game with six against Auburn. Following the 1995 season, Hill was a first-team All-SEC selection. After missing two seasons with an injury, Hill returned in the 1998 season and recorded 669 yards and seven touchdowns, helping to lead the Razorbacks to a share of the SEC Western Division title. Hill finished his Razorback career with 2,407 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns and was named to the Razorbacks’ All-Decade team for the 1990s.
After Hill’s tenure at Arkansas, he was drafted in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. While in the NFL, Hill also played for the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders.
The A Club honorary captain is recognized before each home game for their outstanding accomplishments on the field during their Razorback career. Before kickoff, they will be recognized and will accompany the captains to midfield for the coin toss.
