Razorback Baseball 2012 Team Captains have been chosen

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior pitcher DJ Baxendale, senior infielder Bo Bigham and junior infielder Matt Reynolds have been chosen as team captains for the 2012 Arkansas baseball team, as announced on Tuesday by head coach Dave Van Horn.

 

An All-Southeastern Conference selection last season, Baxendale finished his sophomore season with a 10-2 record and a 1.58 ERA, which ranked second in the SEC. A semifinalist for the 2011 Golden Spikes Award, Baxendale also added three saves out of the bullpen. In 85.1 innings, Baxendale struck out 77 batters and held opposing hitters to a .228 batting average. Baxendale has appeared in 48 games in his career and has a 10-4 record with 10 saves and a 2.41 ERA.

 

Bigham played in 61 of Arkansas’ 62 games last season and made 59 starts. He finished the year with a .291 batting average with two homers, 20 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Bigham led the Razorbacks with a .319 batting average in conference games. In his first three seasons at Arkansas, Bigham has played in 146 games, with 131 starts, and is a career .300 hitter with six homers, 56 RBI and 35 stolen bases.

 

Reynolds started 59 games last season, seeing time at both shortstop and third base. He finished the season with a .243 batting average with three homers and 22 RBI. Reynolds was fourth on the team with 16 stolen bases and was caught stealing just twice. He also led the Razorbacks with a 32 walks. For his career, Reynolds has played in 83 games, with 75 starts, and has a .233 batting average with four homers and 27 RBI.

 

Arkansas opens the 2012 season on Friday, Feb. 17, when it faces Villanova at Baum Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
