Razorback Cross Country Ranked

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The first U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) regional and national polls of the 2010 season were released Monday and Tuesday, respectively. The Arkansas Razorback men’s cross country team is ranked 13th in the preseason national poll.

            In Monday’s USTFCCCA South Central Regional poll, Arkansas is ranked No. 1 ahead of No. 2 Texas and No. 3 Texas A&M. Arkansas is the top-seated SEC team in the South Central Region. The Razorbacks won the 2009 NCAA South Central Regional title to automatically advance to the 2009 NCAA Championships.

Individually, Dorian Ulrey was the 2009 NCAA South Central Region individual race winner and the 2009 NCAA South Central Region Runner of the Year. Head coach Chris Bucknam was the 2009 NCAA South Central Region Coach of the Year.

In Tuesday’s USTFCCCA national poll, the Razorbacks are ranked No. 13. Stanford is No. 1, Oklahoma State No. 2 and Northern Arizona rounds out the top three. Arkansas is the second-highest ranked of the SEC schools. The Alabama Crimson Tide are seated at No. 5.

“We are excited to get started again, no question about it,” Bucknam said. “We are looking forward to competing and getting into a rhythm again. We are into our third week of training and it’s going well. We are getting our kids acclimated to team running and getting our long runs going again. It’s a different dynamic when you are running as a group and we are working on building a really strong team.”

Arkansas Razorback men’s cross country will open the season Fri., Sept. 3 with the Arkansas Invitational. The Razorbacks and Missouri Southern will start the 6,600-meter race at 5:30 p.m. at Agri Park, in Fayetteville.
